The Turtle Pond is almost finished

As spring arrived a group of gardeners got together to imagine a new pond dedicated to turtles. A grant was written and funded by Citizens Committee for New York and Change By Us. Then began the enormous labor of making the pond. A group of people helped dig a giant hole which sat empty until September. Then with the help of many gardeners, who worked every weekend, the pond liner was carefully laid down, the edges were shaped, the post holes were dug and the fence began. There is still work to be done before the turtles move in but the pond is well on its way to being a beautiful addition to the garden. Although many people helped make this happen Penny Jones, Carol Szamatowicz, and Kate Fitzgerald were the “movers and shakers” of the project.
