- It’s a glorious day today – let’s all show up for It’s My Park Day to care for and appreciate our beautiful MK garden! There’s plenty to do, so we hope everyone can find some time today to come to the garden and help out. Not sure what to do? Just ask Bob!
- 🐢 Sunday, May 19th: Free the Turtles Day! 1PM 🐢
- 14 turtles come back to the pond. Richard Ogust, our turtle advisor and doctor will be there to look them over as they go into the water. He will answer questions and describe the differences between the turtle species. Especially fun for kids (of all ages!)
- 🐞 Saturday, June 1st: Ladybug Release 12 – 3PM 🐞
- The Critter Committee will host this year’s first LadyBug Release Event with Children’s Art Making!
- Please join us in celebrating a very special Juneteenth at M’Finda Kalunga Community Garden on Saturday, June 22nd 1PM – 4PM Free; all ages welcomed
- Juneteenth – “Honoring Our Past, Present, and Future”
M’Finda Kalunga Community Garden has been celebrating Juneteenth since 2004 with music, food, artmaking, and community education on Black history. M’Finda Kalunga (‘Garden at the Edge of the World’) was named by Bob Humber and garden founders to honor the unmarked adjacent Chrystie Street African Burial Ground. The day includes:- Opening ceremony led by Dennis RedMoon Darkeem
- Unveiling of ‘Halo’ by Immanuel Oni, a new installation commemorating the Chrystie Street African Burial Ground ‘Halo’ is commissioned by FABnyc with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
- Performances by the Resistance Revival Chorus, Blues singer Bobby Bryan, and the Healing Drum Circle
- Activities with The Tenement Museum, FAB, The New Museum, and Sara Roosevelt Park Coalition
- Honoring activist and community ‘father’ Bob Humber for his four decades of service to the park
- Art and poetry by students from Forsyth Satellite Academy High School
